Science is built up of facts as a house is of stones, but a collection of facts is no more a science than a pile of stones is a house. Before one can discuss the teaching and learning of science, consensus is needed about what science is and why it should occupy a place in the K-8 curriculum. A consensus answer to these fundamental questions is not easily attained, because science is characterized in different ways not only by different categories of people interested in it—practitioners, philosophers, historians, educators—but also by people within each of these broad categories. In this chapter, we describe some different characterizations of science and consider implications for what is taught in science classrooms. Although the characterizations share many common features, they vary in the emphasis and priority they place on different aspects of scientific activity, with potential consequences for what is emphasized in science classrooms. We then describe the goals of science education associated with each perspective. Science is both a body of knowledge that represents current understanding of natural systems and the process whereby that body of knowledge has been established and is being continually extended, refined, and revised. Both elements are essential: one cannot make progress in science without an understanding of both.

Dating is a stage of romantic relationships in humans whereby two people meet socially with the aim of each assessing the other’s suitability as a prospective partner in an intimate relationship. It is a form of courtship , consisting of social activities done by the couple, either alone or with others. The protocols and practices of dating, and the terms used to describe it, vary considerably from country to country and over time. While the term has several meanings, the most frequent usage refers to two people exploring whether they are romantically or sexually compatible by participating in dates with the other.
With the use of modern technology, people can date via telephone or computer or just meet in person. Dating may also involve two or more people who have already decided that they share romantic or sexual feelings toward each other.

Students of all ages can set personal goals that will help them achieve success in education and in life. Teachers and parents play a big role in helping students create and achieve these goals that shape the student’s future. While goal setting for elementary students can include goals related to education, personal goals for young students should focus on healthy habits, behaviors, and personal achievements.
Personal goals for younger children should focus on short timeframes and simple goals. The goal of finishing homework early helps students as young as preschoolers learn to be proactive and schedule their time in advance. Being proactive can help kids learn to plan for the unexpected and avoid unnecessary stress. While the goal does relate to education, it is a personal goal because it is not an expectation or requirement from the teacher.
A SMART goal example for elementary school is more complex than a standard personal goal, making it more appropriate for upper elementary students. SMART stands for specific, measurable, achievable, relevant, and time-based.

We talked with our daughter often about what it would look like practically speaking with these types of questions:.
About three months later, this kind young man did the honorable thing by asking for our permission for them to date. Both our daughter and Mr. Boyfriend knew they were accountable, and that proved to be a critical foundation on which to build their relationship as they often turned to us for support and guidance over the following months.
